New vid

Emery introduces Sophie Cat, Braeden passes off an article of faith, Emery chews beef jerky for the camera, the kids do palates with their mom, and atop the bunker hill monument. Pretty much the highlights of a winter in New England....

the house of seven gables - Salem

*We took a tour of the House of Seven Gables, and of the home where Hawthorne was born. His birth-house was actually located somewhere else but was moved recently to be situated next to the seven gables house.

*Hawthorne's great-great-grandfather was one of the judges in the Salem witch trials. He was the only one that never showed remorse for his role in the trials. According to our tour guide, Nathanial changed his surname from Hathorne to Hawthorne to disassociate himself from his ancestors.

*Hawthorne never saw the "seven gables" house having seven gables. While the house was originally built with them, it was reduced in size to something like 4 gables which is how Hawthorne always knew it. It was later restored to its original design.

*The house had a door in the attic through which they could access the roof and remove the snow. While the structure of the building was strong enough to handle the snow, it was considered low-class to have snow on your roof so they would remove it anyway.
